On March 22, 2024, at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, on the initiative of UNESCO and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), a conference was held on the occasion of the World Water Day under the title “Water for Peace”.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin delivered statement via a video-message.

Dear colleagues,

At the outset, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the UNESCO and UN-Water for organizing this flagship event dedicated to the Celebration of the World Water Day.

One year ago the historic UN Water Conference, co-chaired by Tajikistan and the Netherlands, brought together the global community to focus on water-related issues which played a pivotal role in the tremendous success of the Conference.

Dear colleagues,

For over two decades, Tajikistan has been actively championing water agenda through its water-related initiatives.

Our global initiatives, endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly, have been instrumental in advancing water-related issues at various levels, fostering dialogue and actions to achieve internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including those outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In March 2023, during the UN Water Conference, Tajikistan made several voluntary commitments, including utilizing the Dushanbe Water Process platform to follow up on the outcomes of the UN 2023 Water Conference and the Water Action Agenda.

The Dushanbe Water Process, an initiative of the Government of Tajikistan, aims to support the goals of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028” through biennial conferences hosted by Tajikistan and UNDESA.

The 2nd Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference in 2022 played a significant role in shaping the themes of interactive dialogues of the UN 2023 Water Conference and launching the Water Action Agenda.

In order to fulfill our commitment and to continue our great tradition of providing a platform for policy discussions, dialogues, partnerships, and global actions, Tajikistan, in cooperation with the United Nations, will host the Third Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference in June 2024.

This Conference aims to provide a platform for following up, promoting, and supporting the implementation of voluntary commitments registered in the Water Action Agenda of the UN 2023 Water Conference, as well as stimulating new partnerships and accelerating actions to achieve the goals of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

While the plenary sessions of the Conference are designed to provide a platform for political statements, the interactive Dialogues are planned to be aligned with the themes of the five interactive dialogues of the UN 2023 Water Conference.

To ensure the follow-up of the UN Water Conference in New York, the Former co-chairs of the interactive dialogues of the UN 2023 Water Conference have affirmed their commitment to further their efforts within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process.

Tajikistan remains committed to promoting the water agenda and invites all partners to actively participate in the 3rd Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference to contribute to delivering new water-related commitments and actions.
