“I respectfully commemorate our artist Barış Manço, who is one of the unforgettable values of our art community with his talent, style and character, who kept our values alive by updating them as well as the art he performed, who established a sincere bond with people of all ages and gained an eternal place in the hearts of the people, and who provided great services to his country abroad as a cultural ambassador, on the 26th anniversary of his death.”

The Head of State attended the ceremony to mark the 30-th anniversary of Shell in Kazakhstan

In his speech, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the global energy group Shell was one of the first foreign investors in the country’s oil and gas industry. As the President highlighted, the 30th anniversary of Shell’s operations in Kazakhstan is an important milestone in the history of the industry.

“In the midst of difficult years, Shell brought substantial investments and also introduced new technologies, scientific advancements, and invaluable management experience to our economy. We sincerely appreciate these contributions. Over the past 30 years, Shell has invested more than 18 billion dollars in our economy, solidifying its position as one of the largest foreign investors in Kazakhstan,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

As he further noted, Shell, together with other partners, is actively participating in delivering of major oil and gas projects in our country. The company is the operator of Karachaganak, one of the largest oil and gas condensate fields in the world. Timely implementation of the phases of the Karachaganak Expansion Project contributes to maintaining liquid hydrocarbon production at the level of 10-11 million tons.

“The coordinated work of Shell and other shareholders made it possible to launch the Kashagan Project. Today, the North Caspian project provides almost 20% of the country’s oil production, playing an important role in the global energy market. In addition to the production of hydrocarbons, the creation of infrastructure for their transportation to world markets is of great importance. The first such successful project was the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. Leading oil companies such as Chevron, ENI, Shell, Lukoil and a number of others took part in its implementation,” the President indicated.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the presence of transnational oil and gas corporations in Kazakhstan is a vivid indication of our attractive investment climate, particularly in terms of protecting investors’ rights and interests.

The company’s social responsibility was distinctly highlighted. In its projects, Shell pays special attention to the involvement of local specialists. Today, more than 95% of employees working at the Karachaganak and Kashagan projects are citizens of Kazakhstan. Shell also actively engages young people in addressing environmental issues through projects such as Solar Energy for Schools, Shell Eco-Marathon and others.

The President reminded that in his recent State of the Nation Address he paid special attention to the development of small and medium-sized businesses. In his opinion, Shell is making a significant contribution to this task through programs supporting young entrepreneurs and women from socially vulnerable categories. The Company provides them with consulting services and start-up capital to launch a business. The Head of State pointed out the potential for expanding the Shell’s activities in this area.

“At a meeting with domestic entrepreneurs, I ordered to promote the relocation of project design offices to Kazakhstan with the mandatory involvement of local engineers and companies. It is important to open access for our manufacturers to implement major oil and gas projects in order to increase their local content. I am confident that Shell’s active and constructive stance will make a significant contribution to the diversification of Kazakhstan’s economy and further improve the company’s image,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

In conclusion, the Head of State expressed sincere gratitude to the company for its valuable contribution to the country’s prosperity and sustainable development, noting separately that Shell has become one of Kazakhstan’s strategic partners in the energy industry. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded a number of the company’s employees with state awards for special merits in the development of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry.

Deputy Chair Kuralbek Keljanov was awarded with the “Barys” Order of Third Class; Diyas Jubandykov, Manager for Government Relations – with the “Kurmet” Order. Director for Human Resources and Services Slushash Izbassarova and Subsurface Manager Gadilbek Uxukbayev received the “Eren enbegi ushin” medal.

In his remarks, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that Chevron Corporation is the first foreign company to establish a joint venture with Kazakhstan. He emphasized that the 30th anniversary of Tengizchevroil LLP is a significant event for the oil and gas industry of our country.

“Today TCO as a leading international company successfully contributes to the country’s overall economic progress. TCO produces one third of the country’s total oil output. Over the 30 years, the company has invested $70 billion, delivered more than $160 billion in direct financial payments to the country. Equally important is the fact that 70% of the company’s procurement represents local, Kazakh content. More than 95% of TCO’s workforce are our citizens,” the President said.

As the President noted, Tengizchevroil actively attracts advanced technologies to Kazakhstan’s oil industry, consistently implementing solutions that contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.

“Since 2000, the company has managed to reduce emissions by 75%. These efforts must continue. Projects for the large-scale expansion of production at the Tengiz field are being finished. This will allow our country to increase oil production by another 12 million tons and become one of the largest oil suppliers in the world,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

The President added that during the first session of the newly elected Parliament, he particularly focused on the development of small and medium enterprises. As he said, TCO also plays an important role in this area. The company’s large-scale production activities have created an economic basis for the emergence of hundreds of new businesses in related segments. As a result, tens of thousands of jobs have been created.

The social responsibility of Tengizchevroil was also mentioned. Over 30 years, the company has implemented more than 100 major social projects, investing significant financial resources in the construction of schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other facilities.

In conclusion, President Tokayev presented awards to a number of veterans of the oil and gas industry and employees of the company for their outstanding services.

Labor veterans Zhenis Seitaev, Zhanuzak Urazov, and Kobentai Suyesinov were awarded with the “Kurmet” Orders. Labor veterans Mukhit Abilgaziev, Myrzakuat Karabalin, Leonid Toropkin and Aitkali Uypakov received the “Enbek Danky” Orders of the third degree. Daniyar Bizhanov, Second Generation Plant Manager of Tengizchevroil LLP, labor veterans Urynbay Jakiyev, Bolat Yerniyazov and Ruslan Inebayev, Head of the Integrated Production Management Center of Tengizchevroil LLP were awarded the “Eren enbegi ushin” medal. The Certificate of Honor of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan was presented to Nurlan Bektaev, head of Tengizchevroil plant.

A rally on the 31st anniversary of Khojaly genocide was held in the famous Heldenplatz square of Vienna, the Austrian capital.

Over 1,000 Azerbaijanis from 31 countries of the world, community members, representatives of diaspora organizations and peoples having friendly attitude towards our country participated in the rally.

The rally started with the National Anthem of Azerbaijan and continued with a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the dear memory of our martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of motherland and the victims of Khojaly genocide.

Our compatriots, as well as the foreigners waved the flags of Azerbaijan and the countries they live in, held posters with slogans depicting the recognition of the Khojaly genocide.

The participants gave information about Khojaly genocide, drew attention to the fact that the Azerbaijani people had been waiting for 31 years for justice. The speeches were delivered mainly in English, Lithuanian, Serbian, German, Italian, French, Greek, Polish, Hebrew, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Norwegian, Finnish, Spanish, and Turkish languages. The rally participants demanded legal and political assessment of the crime and brining the perpetrators of the crime to account.

A documentary film dedicated to the Khojaly genocide, produced with support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation was demonstrated, pieces of classical music dedicated to the memory of the victims of the genocide were played.

As part of the rally, booklets and brochures prepared by Heydar Aliyev Foundation were distributed to the city residents to raise awareness about Khojaly genocide.

At the end, the statement of the rally was read in English and German languages.

It should be noted the participants of the rally gathered monetary aid for the victims of the devastating natural disaster in Türkiye. Gathered amount was transferred to the account of AFAD by the Organizing Committee of the rally.

It is almost several years that Azerbaijani communities abroad and diaspora organizations hold mass peaceful campaigns on the occasion of Khojaly genocide to raise awareness. The 1st Pan-European Karabakh rally was held by the Azerbaijani diaspora in Brussels in 2019, the 2nd Pan-European Karabakh rally was held in Berlin in front of the Brandenburg Gate in 2020, and the Pan-American Khojaly rally was held in front of the Capitol building in Washington DC in 2022.
